Responding to High Risk Situations
Since 1989, the Police Department's Tactical Team (SWAT) has been ready to handle hazardous incidents and situations beyond the scope of normal police patrol work. Often, these incidents require specialized equipment and techniques, beyond the daily norms for most police personnel.
It is the Tactical Team's responsibility to respond to high-risk incidents including hostage situations, barricaded subjects, violent felony and other high-risk warrants, narcotic search warrants, V.I.P. dignitary protection, as well as other special assignments.
Our team consists of 18 members including a commander, an assistant commander, four medics, and twelve team members. The tactical team is divided into two groups, each on-call every other week. A team leader and an assistant team leader are assigned to each team.
