Hospitality Tax Grants

In order to support the efforts of local partners to promote tourism and quality of life in the City of Spartanburg, City Council may designate a portion of the annual hospitality tax revenue for competitive grant awards. Council will decide the amount of such portion annually. City Council makes the final decision on all allocations of city hospitality tax funds, including any allocations made through the competitive grant process. The Hospitality Tax Grants Advisory Committee makes recommendations to City Council on grant funding annually.

Citizen Academy

The mission of the City of Spartanburg Citizen Academy is to provide the citizens of Spartanburg the opportunity to receive an in-depth education about the services and operations provided by the City of Spartanburg.

Neighborhood Traffic Calming

Traffic calming employs mainly physical measures that reduce the negative effects of motor vehicle use, alter driver behavior, and improve conditions for non-motorized street users. The City of Spartanburg expands the definition of traffic calming by including enforcement and educational activities. The intent of the program is to provide a reasonably safe residential environment that balances the needs of residents, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.

Like cities across the United States, the City of Spartanburg failed from its inception to recognize and safeguard the rights of its Black citizens, denying their communities the investments made in white areas and denying Black individuals and families the tools to build generational wealth.
